Thinking outside the box to maximise insights
Our webinar series, ‘The Complete Vevox Experience’ which has been run by the Customer Success Team here at Vevox, started on the 5th April and its fourth and final episode took place on Thursday, 7th July. All four episodes are available, in full, on our YouTube channel.
In Episode 3 of the series, the team explored how to utilise polling at strategic points to create engagement & increase productivity, as well as how you can use different polling types to maximise feedback, and collect meaningful data.
This blog will provide you with 6 top-tips on how to maximise insights by using live-polling, as well as offering some other crucial pieces of advice on ways to enhance engagement within meetings. If you’d like to watch the full webinar however, you can do so by pressing play on the video below. Episodes 1, 2 & 4 are also available, in full, on our YouTube channel.
1. Ice breaker opening
A great way to start your meeting is through having a simple ice-breaker right at the very beginning, before heading into the main meeting agenda. This enables you to get your audience engaged and interested right from the get-go, and ensure they’re aware of what will be asked of them and how to participate in the session.
What’s more, this also allows you a chance to cover off any technical hitches or issues you may be having, before you enter into the main session. You’ll be able to get the audience ready for important polls throughout the meeting meaning there’s no chance of participants being unable to vote on an important poll later in the session.
An ice-breaker poll also looks great visually, and creates a really nice, relaxed start to the meeting!
2. Checking understanding
Using live-polling to check and reaffirm understanding throughout your meeting is extremely important, as it’s likely that there will be lots of key information put out that you want to ensure is fully retained by all participants.
Through running correct answer questions, quiz questions or even a simple poll without correct answers, you’re still ensuring that your audience are listening to what is being communicated to them during the session. What’s more, the person running the meeting will be able to see whether the information being provided is going in.
You’ll also be able to get rid of ‘death by PowerPoint’ – by running polls, you won’t just keep droning on and talking at your audience, which studies have proved is wholly ineffective. By running polls to check understanding you’ll ensure that you always have an attentive, interested and engaged audience.
3. Q&A as an ideas generator
A great way to utilise the Q&A board in Vevox is by using it as an ideas generator during a meeting. This can be used to gain thoughts from participants on things such as company policy, initiatives or anything that you think would benefit from pooling together ideas from all of the people engaged in the meeting.
As participants put their ideas into the Q&A board, the idea is to ask people to ‘like’ ideas that they either agree with or think should be discussed. As a result, those most favourited questions will rise to the top, to then be discussed or debated in the meeting.
Using Q&A for this is a really great way to ensure that all ideas are heard and that the most liked ideas rise to the top – meaning you will have gained a shared consensus across all meeting participants.
4. Creating an XY or multiple choice poll mid-meeting
Following on from the ideas generator above, you can then use the information gathered from your participants to take the top 3 most ‘liked’ suggestions and create an XY or multiple choice poll in the background. This gives the audience a chance to now vote on which one of the 3 options they feel is the most important.
This is a great way to capture and prioritise ideas when you’re presenting to a large audience, and allows for rapid decision making. In an instance, you’re able to gain sentiment on a topic across a broad amount of participants and fully understand which strategic decisions need to be taken based on feedback.
5. Capturing commitments
Capturing commitments centres around giving some actions from your sessions. By having actions and commitments from the session, you’re able to hold both yourself and your colleagues to account based on what you’ve planned to do, meaning in the following session you will be able to say what’s been done, and whether commitments made have been met.
A great way to set these plans of action is through using a simple, open text poll in Vevox. This makes it easy for participants to submit their commitments and it’s a fantastic way to add extra value to your session. Meetings as a result have much more purpose and people have tasks and goals that they know need to be achieved – stopping any chance of an unproductive meeting.
6. In the moment feedback
Super simple and really effective, using a star rating poll right at the very end of a meeting is a brilliant way of gaining real-time audience feedback. In just 30 seconds, you can run three quick questions asking your audience their thoughts on varying topics such as whether they enjoyed the session, how much value they’ve got out of it or how they would rate the presenters.
This is so quick and so easy for the audience to fill out – with just one click they’re able to provide instantaneous feedback at the end of the session, rather than waiting around for people to fill in a survey, which they ultimately may not even end up completing.
